  • I got this from a reader:

“Bloglines.com is a syndication feed- and from what I understand, anyone, anywhere can read your blog without the privacy settings (meaning your protected post is public).”

If you want to change that go to:http://www.xanga.com/private/editaccountprivacy.aspx

I just fixed it so that only Xanga people can read me.  I need to be able to post protected.

  • Thanks going there now.

  • I had no idea….thanks

  • RYC- I’ve read from other Xanga bloggers that bloglines does not post protected entries. Not sure if that is true or not.

However, I’ve had people come to my site referred from google, seen what their search query was & had part of a protected post come up as a result. I don’t know why that is- but it happens.

  • Thanks for posting this and below. I just changed mine. Whatever that RSS is. I never considered it, but if I write about work I don’t want it to be used against me. Better safe than sorry.

  • i did this, too, but i wonder how often before someone has had access to my private – well, protected, but you know what i mean – ramblings.  especially when i’m ranting about someone in particular.  that’s why i was protected in the first place.

  • I leave rss feed on I don’t care who  reads mine, Judi

  • I didn’t know that protected posts can be picked up by Bloglines. I only read my xanga posts on xanga.

  • IT IS ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE THAT BLOGLINES OR ANY OTHER SYNDICATED FEED PICKS UP PROTECTED POSTS!!! Where such misinformation comes from, I don’t know. It seems to be part of a type of spreading of paranoia, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Xanga itself didn’t drop these UNTRUE tid bits into the community.

WHY would anyone say such a thing? And WHY doesn’t anyone listen to me, who uses Bloglines, and who can GUARANTEE that they DON’T PICK UP PROTECTED POSTS.

Doesn’t anyone want to know the truth? Or are they only interested in the fabrications????

    It’s all beyond me.

    Sorry.
