  • ICED IN

There’s no place I need or want to go but the idea that I can’t go is what’s starting to bother me.  As with any storm, I’ve washed every bit of dirty laundry and dish I could find, just in case the power goes off.  And I made a big pot of potato soup with the last of the Honey Baked Ham:

    Prudy’s Potato Soup with Ham

    1/4 C olive oil

    1 1/2 C diced onion

    1 1/2 C diced celery root

    4 clove garlic, minced

    1 C diced anise

    1/4 C flour

    pepper

    4 C diced potatoes

    3 C chicken stock

    3 C water

    1 C diced ham

    whole milk

    rosemary

    Swiss cheese

In a large pot sauté, in olive oil, the onion, celery root and anise.  Just use celery if you don’t have the root, and parsnips would be nice if you don’t like anise. Put the garlic in just before the onions look limp.  Then sprinkle the flour, rosemary and pepper over that and coat the vegetables, letting the flour brown.  Deglaze with half the stock and slowly add half the water.  When it’s as thick as it’s going to get, (this is barely thick so use more flour if you like your soup thick) add the rest of the liquid and the potatoes and simmer until the potatoes are just about done.  Then add the ham and simmer for 10 minutes more.  Before serving add a touch of milk and garnish with Swiss cheese.

You can puree it and it will be thicker but I like the chunks of celery root.

  • Well, we made it through. I didn’t lose power, though I heard thousands did today in Portland. God, that soup sounds good. I’ve decided to go off sugar so I’ve been moping about today wishing I could have just a taste of it. I don’t buy pork any more, but I’d still eat that soup if it appeared in front of me. I did a lot of writing on my autobiography today – well editing mainly – and I guess I’m going to start posting the next chapter tomorrow. It’s taken months to get it done. Stay tuned.

  • ummmm… nothing like a pot of soup! i made a huge one of turkey and rice today, but will have to freeze most of it. i’ve never learned to like potato soup and would spend all my time picking out the pieces of ham for the dog… lol… sounds wonderful tho’. (i won’t tell you it was nearly 50 here and we worked in the yard without coats… nope, i won’t tell you that at all! stay warm!

  • hey I wish I had a personal Broker. Im coming into about 1.5 k to add to my portfolio but i want to do it with long term (months) investments through a broker got any advice? As far as day trading is concern its a big big story. But to cut it all short, ill let you know the basics. One, it takes groups to pump a stock. In the world of day trading, you have about a couple hundred groups, maybe less. I am apart of three groups of people that day trade. Many of them buy and hold stock till it goes. It is an accumulation of stock holdings. News comes out and the MM’s allow it to run. Then the market gets excited and you have other groups that might join in to help keep it going up. If you have buyers then you have a rising stock, if you start to see more sellers the buyers then the stock begins to decline. The thing is, you have to get in early, dont catch (follow to far too fast rule) and keep on your toes.

I personally like to buy and hold for days, week, even months until they run it. Patience is a vertue sometimes, and only the big winners win with patience. I have had to outpatience the MM’s before, proven to be very very profitable.

Did that about cover it? Any question please feel free and ask.

  • Even if I have only been trading actively for less then two months, I have been doing long term trading way before then. So like you I was lost when it came down to technical analysis or moving from long term trading to short term trading. It is a different dog alltoghether. let me know if i can help in any way. Honestly, the only way to make money in the market with short term trades is completely uderstand how everything works. I’m actually very surprised you didnt know what an MM was.
