My oldest and no longer estranged friend and I saw Sex in The City last night. It was surprisingly good and the perfect thing to see together. It was fun to be at the movies again after spending much of our preteen years there.
This singing thing is amazing. I sent an email to my teacher and she responded:
Yes, people respond that they have lots of positivememory flashbacks and spiritual experiences fromsinging as well as healing. I think it’s cause musicfires many parts of our brain that don’t usually getjuiced, and that our cerebro-spinal fluid is opened upwhen we’re “in posture”, bathing our brain and ourspinal column with the elixirs of life. So glad you’rehaving that experience.Singing is closely allied to meditation, you know, Prudy, and it’s always been a twin path for me.btw, You’re welcome to come to all the meditation classes.Love to You, Mizz P.,KrisSent: Saturday, May 31, 2008 5:47 PMSubject: Re: flashbacksKris,I’m sure this will strike you as odd but have you ever had a student comment that they were suddenly flooded with memories (fond) after taking up singing? I can’t imagine there being a correlation but it’s the only thing that’s changed in my life. For the past few days I repeatedly will flash on some moment (happy) where I am in Florida or at the beach or just walking my dog. Either I have written — I always journal a lot when I travel in case I want to use the setting later — about the place and I am remembering being there or the last one was just one afternoon standing in front of a condo down by the river thinking when I got old I could imagine living there.Maybe singing gets blood and oxygen to a part of the brain that stores memories? Sounds kooky but you never know.PrudySo, yeah, I’ve never been happier. Who knew what a great activity this would turn into.

That is so cool! Music definitely stirs up many things in me – emotions – memories – creative ideas … all kinds of things! I can’t imagine life without it.
Yay for no-longer-estranged friends
I get a lot of really good release from singing. I had quit singing for months before CB left, but now there’s no one to hear me and I feel free to let it out.
Total awesomeness!
Wonderful thing about singing. One of the things I like about Sex and the City is the friendship. They always have each other when they have heartbreak. And they can be mad and forgive each other in one or two episodes.
Singing is also vibrational theraphy….Nice that you’re feeling the benefits from it. marilyn
That is interesting. I’d never have thought of it.
That is awesome, I sing in tongues, and reach that meditative state. I am glad that this experience is such a powerful one for you. It makes me want to sing, which I usually do when I am driving, hmm…when I am at home I am dancing not singing.
Ryc about the boulder; it is a “friend” of nearly twenty years who came to live in my house. Only to find out that all my thoughts about her are correct; which makes my little peaceful nest that I love so much… an uncomfortable place to be in.
Well, I am tired and need to turn in early, but I wanted to come by and say hello, and to see what you have been up to.
Hugs and good night, Ms. Elizabeth
I read this and though about it and thought I had commented. I didn’t !
It seems that this mixture of thought and action has led to a deeper kind of connection to life. Outstanding. And I never heard of it before. What an excellent bonus to an already rewarding activity.
You also get amazing memories from massage (if done right). It seems the body stores emotions and memories in certain places.
BTW, I finally have some fiction (very short) up on the Web. You might want to visit my blog for the URL. Thanks.

Whenever I’m in a down mood, I put on some fun music to sing or dance along with. Music definitely has an impact on emotion, especially singing along with the music. Also, I’ve seen from working with kids that using music and singing really helps with the learning process. Clever songs can really help a person learn the material better and faster.
By the way, do you belong to a belly dance group in Oregon? My friend in Oregon is really into the Afrian and Middle Eastern bellydance scene in Portland, and she’s now getting into Brazilian dance. I love all the eclectic cultural activities that Oregon has to offer.
