  • I have a new oven and it’s black.  I wouldn’t have chosen black but there were only two choices:  black and white.  Some time ago, and I’m embarrassed to admit how long, my kitchen started breaking down.  First it was the microwave.  That was okay because I had decided it was dangerous.  Then my oldest broke the knob off the stove so all I could do was broil.  That was okay because I bought a portable oven.  Then the front burner started acting up.  The final straw was yesterday.

I had Elizabeth and her little boy over to see my house and my middle daughter was making grilled tuna and cheese when the burner started doing its thing.  It would turn on and off.  I promised to take action and after they left I went to the appliance store down the street to see if I could switch the grill side over to be burners.  Now I have a fancy looking new stove top and four burners that work.  While I was there I bought a new wall oven.  Here all this time I thought they didn’t make 24-inch ovens any more.  I’d been holding off until I refinanced, thinking I was going to have to take my kitchen all apart to accommodate the new size.

Getting ready for Henry’s mother to come the other day involved lots of cleaning so not only does everything work, I am ready for company.  The kids think we should have the Canadian over.  They met him Wed night when we went dancing and everyone hit it off.  I think my daughter and the Canadian are both the type to pour on the charm.  They’re both real charismatic and good at reading people.  My daughter’s boyfriend liked him, though, and I trust his judgment.

  • I am assuming that it’s gas. I have the flat top electric.

  • Ah, I know JUST what that’s like, with the oven!! I didn’t tear my kitchen out. I just tore the whole house down to the ground. But, either way.

  • Here’s to working kitchen appliances! Vastly underappreciated until you have to do without!

  • My kitchen is pretty pathetic these days too. There’s only one rack in the oven and it heats VERY unevenly. I’m down to three eyes and the handle has fallen off the front of the oven. I’m waiting till this summer. I think I’m going to have a big fundraiser party at my house. I’ll cook all my friends’ favorite goodies and put out a tip jar lol.

  • I had one burner that was so eractic in heat I easy burned or cussed when it would barely heat…finally got the repairman to order and replace the element so I’m back up and running.  I really would like a different set up but with the stock market where it’s at I’ll be waiting awhile.  marilyn

  • i want a new oven. i am using the one i grew up with. years ago, my parents were moving and i asked if i could have it. this is the same stove that my mother made oatmeal for us on when i was in elementary school. it functions perfectly, but is brown…

  • It’s interesting that you trust the boyfriend’s judgment. Some people just have that about them.

Congrats on the stove! I haven’t done it yet but need to. It will feel good to cook on I’ll bet!

I know I am missing something about this Canadian. I am going to have to read down to check it out.

  • New stoves are wonderful! Happy cooking on it. Share a new recipe one day. I still make your broccoli and tofu with peanut sauce now and then.

  • Good for you!! The ‘Canadian’ has piqued my interest!
