  • I saw the DaVinci Code today.  I think if I hadn’t read it I might have felt too lost.  It’s been a couple years since I read the book and I hadn’t remembered the end that way.  Did they change it?  I can’t imagine I wouldn’t have finished the book.  But I was in a book group and I always waited to the last minute. Sometimes I wouldn’t quite make it to the end, counting on the group to fill me in.  That was kinda fun, too.

I got the most out of our good weather.  The grass is mowed, the flowers are watered, and I pinched back all the spent pansies and English daisies and primrose.  Even the columbine and iris will be done soon.  I need to do the roses, too.  They’re in full bloom but by the end of the weekend and the rain I’ll have to cut them back, too.

Since every morning with the market was worse than the day before I’d knock off early and go for a walk or meet a friend.  You would not believe how much money I’ve lost.  It doesn’t even feel real.  Someone said we hadn’t had this big a — The person doing the interview said not to use the word crash — loss in twenty years.  That’s good to know because I’ve only been paying close attention like this for a couple years and didn’t know how bad it usually got in a bear market.  I’ve had good stocks tank before, and I’d just wait for them to come back.  It took a year for Nokia, and when it finally came back up I sold it.  That was a mistake.  I certainly hope it doesn’t take that long for things to recover.

I don’t know if you remember that Edward Jones woman I took the financial classes from.  She had this chart we weren’t allowed to keep; we could just pass it around.  It showed the Nasdaq with its bear and bull markets graphed out.  I remember thinking the bad times didn’t last all that long.  I wish I could remember if that was one or two years or more like three bad years.  I’m thinking it was two.  My plan has been to wait it out.  The only stocks I have that are really in trouble are stocks I think will climb back up.  This has been my plan from the beginning because I knew it was going to get bad.  I just had no idea how bad.

I’ve lost eight pounds and I’m still going strong. Every morning I do sit-ups and leg lifts and then later I stretch and dance in the kitchen.  I’m remembering how to put little routines together.  Some I can still do on the right side but mostly I’m working on the left now.  My sacrum is becoming looser.  I’m being slow and deliberate about separating out those vertebrae again.  Sitting in front of the computer for the last two years, I think my lower back has been compressed into this solid mass.  Stretching everywhere else feels great but I am being very careful with my back.   I’m going dancing tomorrow night with my friend from the hospital so that’ll be great fun.  And I’m looking forward to church on Sunday.  Maybe I’ll stay for coffee this time.  No, I’d rather meet my middle daughter for brunch.  Have a great weekend!

  • I think you have to take the long term view for any of this stuff. Real estate, stocks, personal business… Re: the sitting and the computer. The BF swears that it was when he sat writing a novel for a year that his “sitting problem” developed. I hope you can find some relief.

  • I’m unsure yet whether I want to see…movies of books never seem to be as good.
Brunch sounds nice…I should brunch more.

  • I will see that!  It takes so long for movies to get around to this hole…*sigh*

I’ve taken up belly dancing!  Okay…so I’m just a beginner and can’t even make it through the entire warm-up! lol!  But it’s fun…and my goal is to dance like Shikira.  Of course, I may be 50 by the time I can do that, but I’ll have fun in the meantime.

    Congrats, on the weight loss!

You really do have it going on…

    I love you…GFW

  • I think that I would like to read it first. Haven’t though. Mother didn’t enjoy the book. She’s probably the only one.

  • You seem calm about your stocks and that is wonderful. You’ve chosen those that will rise again and I hope it makes you bloody rich when they do. Oh, you have roses! It’s still too cold here. I haven’t seen many of them in yards at all. So cool, 8 pounds gone and dancing! That is sweet. That careful body stretching feels devine. When I do it I feel an inch taller! Oh, have a great time tonight with your friend and brunch tomorrow too.
ryc: I’ve got the spot chosen and I’m all set to just kick back and enjoy the night. Once again, thank you for the transmitted confidence!

  • We are just getting started in the market after a few years.  You are not helping any!  I also read the book, but heard an interview where it was stated that the movie is based on the book, but doesn’t follow it strictly.  I thought that strange.

Have fun with daughter.  Good weekend to you…

  • i can’t imagine losing $$$. i’m a mess about risking just a small portion of ours on a risky venture!

  • We expect to see “The DaVinci Code” on Tuesday.  Loved the book, but Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsmith have a history of making unexpected revisions, so I’m not going with any special expectations, other than it ought to be enjoyable.  I’ve enjoyed every Ron Howard movie I’ve ever seen.  Critics notwithstanding.

  • ryc: Of course, you knew I’d like it!  I love the strange, beautiful, exotic, sensual qualities…

Well, yeah, my back does make itself known…but I’m taking my time.  I do everything very slowly.  I hope to build up those side and stomach muscles to take some of the load off my back, and I’m still using my TENS unit.  I WILL DO THIS! Somehow!  (And no video recorders allowed! lol!)

    I love you…GFW

  • I barely remember the book…. 8 pounds thats so great! Im gonna lose that much about 12 weeks from now (wink wink) but I hope I can bounce back quickly..it was much easier when I was 28…Ill probably dvd the davinci movie….rare to see a grown up movie these days in an actual theatre!

  • When i READ the DaVinci Code it was like watching a rerun of a show you already saw but had forgotten about…everything in that book is derivative which is probably why it bombed @ Cannes  Can wait for it to come on cable

So don’t the belly dancing take care of the lower back???

  • NO, not Missy, Dave’s daughter, Sami…

The Missy in the story is Tommy’s girlfriend, Missy…marilyn

  • check it out here and see if this answers your questions. i’m not sure i know! :)

  • I didn’t read The Da Vinci Code when it was “big” but decided I wanted to read it before seeing the movie.  I started it when I was sick a few weeks ago and read the entire book in one afternoon.  I’m looking forward to seeing the film now.

Congrats on the 8 pounds!  For me, that would be a good start; ultimately I’d like to lose about 50 pounds but I have trouble making it happen.

  • I think you are wise to wait it out with regard to stocks….eight pounds? That is wonderful…you seem to be doing an excellent job of balancing your life between work ,and pleasure….and you are a good role model for people like me that tend ot ignor our health until we get sick,,,

  • i talk w/narrator infrequently. he’s in ireland writing up a storm and is so focused its hard to pull him away for very long. i suspect that he’ll have a book done very soon and will re-emerge. he says he’s happy and i believe him. i haven’t talked or emailed with the other one in a long time.
