Big news: I got a call yesterday, from the company who handles my time-share trades. This is the first time I’ve “banked” my week. If you don’t use your designated week, you have the option of trading it in for another week in a different location. So I picked Seattle or the Oregon Coast, someplace I could drive.
This happened three weeks ago and, after relinquishing my week, I hung up the phone, completely disillusioned. They won’t tell you what’s available until you turn your week in, and once I did they glibly informed me that there were no vacancies available for the rest of the year, either at the Oregon coast or in Seattle. But they put me on a waiting list, and when they called yesterday they said, if I wanted it, I could have the first week in May at a hotel in Seattle I happen to like. Woot!, as they say.
I’ve never been to Seattle for a whole week; this will be great. I’m a little bummed as there is not much of a kitchen, just a mini refrigerator and microwave. But the hotel said there was a full kitchen I could use in the game room. That seemed a little odd.
I’m not sure what to do about my stocks. I don’t have a laptop — Well, I do, but it’s messed up. I haven’t gone without a computer for a week since I can’t remember when. I’d be too lonely up there without y’all. Maybe they have a computer in the game room

And I bet you can find a cyber lounge or even the public library. The time sounds great. I want to come!
ryc:Mybaddy, is Scott, a Xanga brother. And Amy was wearing a wig for Thanksgiving this year. She went as Chinese New Year. We all were supposed to come in costume. Oh, it’s a long and silly story that one.
Sounds great! And, ya know, there’s paper and pen and transcribing later… :grins: (most of my posts are still scribbled in pencil in a special book & then I type them in, editing all the while- comments are fly by the cuff though :grinning more:)
I used to love sitting on a couch, in front of a window, my old cottage the most favourite with the trees, beach and wide expanse of lake, and writing for 6 hours straight. My hand ached; I’d fill a whole blank journal sometimes.
It was often a lot of ru-hah, garbage, but it was fun, and very therapeutic.
Later I’d edit it all down to a few pages in a letter or something, and I’d be amazed at how strong the images were, how poetically clear the writing had become.
Call it a first draft then. There must be some nice couches in Seattle…
xo
You were the FIRST person i thought of when i saw that personal flag thing…now it’s time to go turn you in
And we would miss you too! Maybe there is a cyber-cafe where you might even meet a cutie-patutie and share coffee and conversation? But it sounds great to be able to spend a whole week in Seattle! And yes I do care if my bouncing lil guys from Smiley Central drive you crazy…I am trying to cut back…but I think they are so damn cute…but I will try. Have a Great Day Pru`dance!
You censored yourself? Why? I think I can handle your thoughts on the gun. It’s ok. No need to hold back. Shoot with both barrels…so to speak.
And, WHOOHOO on getting away. A week without a computer will be a good thing. I did it last summer and I never missed it.
i would need to take my laptop. i find it difficult to write on paper — too much editing!
but you’ll have a great time and seattle looks like a wonderful place. i’d love to spend more time there. we just drove thru it once!
Change is always good. Scribble away on paper. Take a break from Xanga. Be where you are fully in the moment!
Not sure about the stocks though…
I hope you will have fun. Go out and take pictures every day:) You can be computer/xanga diet for a week:) I did it for three weeks when I was in Vietnam.
Have fun…hopefully they have a laptop or something….if not we shall miss you while you are gone.
Sounds like the perfect vacation, I know they have tons of coffee shops, there has to be a cyber cafe just for you to Xanga in…marilyn
Sounds glorious! I look forward to hearing about your adventures and little happenings in Seattle. I’m thinking about investing in a new computer – a laptop. My computer, though, will live for a little longer, I think. My husband recently hypothesized something that made sense to me – a plausible explanation for the frequent fritzing of my computer is that my instant messenger and/or my mp3 player have memory leaks in them. Since I use these programs all the time, sometimes without rest, the leaks slow the computer down. I just need to restart more often. Other possible spending sprees may include a new car for me (another thing I really want to put off, as my car is only nasty in the winter) and/or new tires for my husband’s baby, um, car. Back to you, though
I’ve been researching stocks lately for a research project for one of my bosses, and I’m very excited about what you’re doing. You should set some goal for yourself and if you meet it, get a laptop that works.
MWAH!
ryc: i think one adjusts if one is willing… or at least i hope so. i never did adjust to illinois tho. and i’ve not missed it one bit after we moved away- the ppl- yes! the place- no!!!!!! have fun planning this trip!!!!
Thank you! That’s really cool that you also made a connection through NA culture (prayer)…it’s comforting to know that there are other people who are also looking for meaningful connections…and hey – that’s great about the week in Seattle…I’m hoping to see that city and the west coast some day…have a blast! :>)
im sure you can find a coffee shop with access there…:)
ive never been, but im sure there’s much to see and do
Bummer. Sometimes stocks do better if one leaves them alone for a while. FEW managers out-do the DOW or S&P.
Sounds like a nice week away….but does this mean you’ll be out of town May 5-7?
I see someone suggested the library…thats what I would do..and consider the time off as a good thing:) Seattle is a city I would love to visit. Take some pictures to share.
About those stocks.
I am sure you will know what to do.
If you don’t have a computer don’t check them. Some will go down and some will go up. That you can be sure of!
Before you leave, determine where you might sell portions or all of your positions, if you so choose. When you return, treat the week as an hour of trading that you just happened to have missed. If those stocks hit your points, well execute your aforementioned plans.
But most of all, enjoy your week away from things. We all need to do that quite often. Looking back at where we were from somewhere else is a good way to get perspective on life.
