Yes, research showed coconut oil was bad but in revisiting those studies, researchers found that hydrogenated (refined) coconut oil had been used.

“A study conducted in Yucatan where coconut oil is a staple, showed that metabolic rates of people living there were 25% higher than in comparable test subjects living in the United States. The study further observed that local women displayed none of the symptoms commonly associated with menopause.”

Granted I got this off a site selling organic coconut oil but the lecture I went to, put on by a naturopath I know, provided compelling evidence.  I’m going to try using it when I make my butternut squash soup.  I’ll pick some up today.  I still haven’t tasted it.

  • Hey, this is one of your avid readers. I was wondering if you could start posting on my site as soon as it comes up? the url is http://www.factornot.com. I would like to make it a place for business, health, entertainment, and all sorts of other speculation. Rumors of layoffs supported by factual information or factual information speaking of speculation. I’ve got available resources to all sorts of subscription journals and news papers etc. But I would like for there to be a specific Business speculation Forum. Would you be interested in writting or managing it? Of course we will and must spread the word about the site first at is it not a traffic driven website yet. Please let me know what you think. For the most part, it will be a free informational website full of questions from the public needed to be answered, hence the name. I want to create an environment were we can learn about things many know very little about or have question about. Personally, I think you are just the right kind of person that might have answers for a number of different things :) But if you would like to write or manage your own board please let me know and what subject you’d like to focus on. Thank you kindly
    Respectfully,
    Tony

  • ryc: How is it that I inspire? I’m curious to know.

  • oh no- not preggers, at least I don’t think so! But little lump yes. I wrote about it not too long ago… :(

  • interesting article topic. and how’s the coconut oil?

for nanowrite… are you starting a new book or finishing the one you’re working on now. i can understand how you want to keep the novel protected. the two i’m marketing aren’t on line anywhere.

  • Interesting….Keep us posted on the taste.

  • There is support for what you write here. Have you tried flaxseed oil? One of my favorites.

  • I used to get coconut oil straight from the dried out coconuts in Dominica.  Its mostly used for making their soap, Refresh, I think.

Since coconut oil is derived from the dried out white ‘meat’, smoked to release the oil, you could just as well get the oil from coconut cream which is made from the white meat before it dries out completely.  You could have it in a virgin colada – coconut cream and pineapple juice.  Or, you can get a block (like butter) of coconut cream and use it for frying or making the most delicious curries and Asian food imaginable.

  • Mmmm…butternut squash soup is DELICIOUS! Yum! My mother-in-law is a naturopath nutrition consultant…and this sounds like something she’d say…so the info is probably right…I do think coconuts (and the oil) is supposed to be good for you, just lots of calories. :>)

  • ryc: ahh..I get it now…and I guess the thing is, these things make me happy…I really love decor, crafts, painting…but for so many years I used whatever excuse I could to not do it…and that sucked…and then Jeff comes along and always says to me…so? And I realized if it brings joy, then do it:) And besides…when your home is in order, done up how you want and like and enjoy, likely the rest of your life follows suit. Thats my theory, specially when it comes to cleaning. Anything to help stress:)

  • my metabolism is high enough as it is. typing a sentence will burn off a whole meal.

  • My mom totally thinks that menopause is a crock of shit.  I mean, yes, women stop ovulating, but she’s convinced that the “side effects” many women complain of are ridiculous.  She also hates it that some doctors treat it as an abnormality or a disease.  Leaving work now.  Cheers!
