  • There’s a party goin’ on.  I struck out on foot to find it.  The music sounded like it was coming from the back, maybe three doors down.  It’s a solid strip of woods separating our backyards so I had to go around.  As soon as I rounded the corner I saw the cars.  Must be a wedding I thought.  The band was awfully good, though.

I approached a woman, not seeing the headpiece.  She was on the phone but needed help directing a friend to the party.  People have no idea this area exists.  I supplied all the street names, and she told me the party was a fundraiser for Katrina.  Turning to head back home I noticed the nicest-looking man about my age.  I would have crashed the party had I not had potatoes boiling on the stove.

The band’s taking a break and you can hear all the kids playing.  It looked like an ice-cream social back there but the band was playing blues, with horns and everything.  I wonder who they are.  It’s the perfect place for a huge party.  They must have a couple acres behind their house.  What a great way to raise money; neighbors and friends coming together.  I wish they’d start up again, I’m in the mood to dance.

  • Get the pot off the stove and crash the party gal.

  • potatoes can wait.  did they?  sounds like a lovely scene to be part of.

fall, i used to love fall, then the nasty allergies to leaf mold, now i just stay inside mostly and hunker down tillthe first frost which is liberating.  you go enjoy it, and please add on a little extra for me….

also good to hear about your dog and progress.

here’s to cheese and teenage drivel……

  • Hi Prudy,

    Party or Potatoes?

    Party?

Wish you could have joined in , but you can always dance.I am happy this was for Katrina survivors.

Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging comments.Would that it could be…

    Peace and Love:)

  • I would have run home, turned off those potatoes, and made my way back to the party.  These kind of opportunities do not come around every day.

  • Potatoes off and run to the party.  Nice looking man,,,,run fast but maybe first primp a  little.

  • Good evening, hope its a pleasant one for you.

    Take care

    Patty

  • I’d take the taters with me.

    Steve

  • Did you take the potatoes off the stove & mosey on over to the party???

  • That does sound lovely. I could use just that sort of festive atmosphere.

Oh, and thanks for the well wishes!

  • ryc: weight as a number never meant a lot to me. From the pics I’ve seen, and I can only assume, you’ve never really been heavy. For me, I’ve always been, and knowing the number never helped, only made things worse.

So now having one is more a point of reference, not an inspirational tool. My clothes being looser, my ability to breathe well after lots of walking, thats my inspiration:)

  • Courage, heh.

Just you wait until you see some of my reaaaaaally horrible older stuff.

    You’ll think I’m He-Man.

  • sorry MIA- going to try an catch up- just wanted to say thanks- you give me hope with your comment. I think you are STILL sexy and you sure as hell don’t look like you are over 45!

  • RYC:  I appreciate the comment.  After Husband read my post he said, “It may be time to just let it go.”  I hope I didn’t offend.  As I tried to explain, maybe poorly,  it’s just an enexplainable feeling I have always had.

  • Balance is good.  Half the time, I stop what I’m doing and attend the party, and half the time I skip the party and stick to what I’m doing.

    Works for me.

  • Exactly – remove the potatoes.  They’re cheap and easy.    Love the snippet here.  Realtime.

  • Nah…I am really hard to offend.  And I appreciate your input.

  • RYC: Writer, smiter, I ramble and you know it! Love to read your entries so get busy.

  • RYC–thanks for the comment and good for you!  Eight is a lot and no small sacrifice–but people say they want to make sacrifices :)   Thus far, I’ve sent the info to the Sacramento Bee, which is the primary northern CA paper.  I’m also waiting and hoping for some kind of response from bloggers (I believe you’re the second to identify an emergency reserve or show interest in having one.)

  • Yeah, good…um, ok.  Happy for the horses.

  • Hi !

Thanks so much for coming by and saying wgat you did. I really dont know about show dont tell. Or is that wrong?
I just am not a professional writer then, thats what ill say .. just a plain old story teller.

    How were those potatoes?

    Take care

    Peace and Love:)

  • No I’m 70, I saw there was a 65 but it isn’t me.

    Marilyn

  • well heck, girl….

    i think you shoulda joined…

and it was down right neighborly of you to lead that person to the party….

    have a great night!!!

    Rose

  • That was a great little slice.  Love the way you put us right there with you…. and you can tell we’re all dyin’ for an update!

Thanks so much for all your kind comments.  Doin’ fine just now but the hard part is yet to come…

  • What kind of band was playing? I live in a college town, so normally all of the bands are just loud and pretty much suck.

  • oh- too bad you didn’t crash it- what a story you could have told. :)
