  • I found this picture from a couple years ago.  Okay, my skin DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THIS.  I had to make it smaller and when I was messing with it, not knowing the first thing about photoshop or whatever I was in, there were all these choices like softer and despeckle.  Well, I started clicking on everything and now it’s messed up.  And that used to be a pretty good picture.  I sent it to match.com when I was on there, briefly, and they must have doctored it up.

If anybody knows, what are the psychological implications of using the word “little” all the time?  Have you noticed how often I use it?  ALL THE TIME.

  • I use “a little like..” and “a bit like…” all the time. I think it means I am hedging my bets in describing something, because who can argue with something being a little bit like something else? I take it out in the editing process sometimes, but I write it in the first instance, meaning it comes from somewhere.

  • I don’t think you look messed up.

I only noticed the word “little” twice in the previous post, and it was when you described yourself doing something: took a “little” tour, etc. T’s Super Duper Instant Psychoanalysis (that’s T’s S DIP) says it’s because you’re minimizing your actions so nobody will think you’re making a big deal out of them. Just off the top of my head, I don’t think it means anything. I haven’t noticed that you use the word all that much (but now I’m going back to examine EVERYTHING and count them all!) I use what I call “filler” words all the time and it makes me nuts. I have to edit like crazy to get rid of them.

  • it is a linguistic pattern more common to women than to men……

thanks very much for your comments.  i’m with you on most and probably will arrive at the same station on all within 24 hours.  there is no esoteric knowledge – at least none that i’m aware of, being a rank amateur at this myself…. ;)

  • “the psychological implications of using the word “little” all the time?” different for women than men. Probably.

  • little- of no importance, of small size, of not much value….  is it a way of making something seem less valuable so no one else will want to take it away from you, like you would do if you were traveling in an unsafe adventure with a precious gem… this little thing, it’s quite flawed!

  • yeah, give up “little” for a little time and see if you can get by without it, and no turning to pseudonyms, like small, miniscule, either -:)

I LOVE that photo – and I am so amazed how as you reveal yourself in these photos you look exactly as I imagined you! It’s freaky, actually. The person I’m imagining writing to, reading comments from, commenting at, is, well, just what you look like! Maybe it’s ’cause you’ve described yourself here and there and the verbally drawn picture is a pretty damn good one, so vivid I’ve been able to ‘imagine’ you as you are, which figures, your ability to ‘draw pictures’ of people, situations, is a real gift…

If that happens with Photoshop, and you can’t undo the changes with the back arrow or under “Undo History,” just save the photo as a “Save As” under a different name, or add a 1 or something, and close it without saving the present version. That way you’ll get back to the original. In fact, it’s a good idea to always keep the original untouched because this sort of thing happens all the time, and then you always have it to go back to just in case…

I don’t notice any ‘speckles’ here, either… looks pretty good to me!

  • I think it’s a lovely picture.  I can’t stand having my picture taken anymore, so I’d have to go back quite a few years to find one of myself to post.  I think I’ll stay with my pinwheel cap pic for now.  Take care!

  • …i also use it a little too much…

  • your profile pic looks GREAT!

  • You look great. I like the way your eyes smile along with your lips.
